Another month, another ton of inspiration. Here's my picks of the things that got me screen-grabbing in September:
I have no idea how I came across @Vasitiii, aka this gorgeous woman above! But I love her style as well as her fella's. Its all a bit military inspired, very boyish and unisex, with a strong focus on great fabrics: be that an African indigo scarf teamed with a khaki jacket or a retro ranch allover print shirt with classic plaid yoke. The cool part is they have a denim label based out of Sydney, Australia called Nawato and its really nice. More on that maybe next month!
Bon Magazine Rave about Koche
A good friend turned me onto Koche and of course we've just had Paris fashion week where their embellished denim was getting the whole fashion scene pretty excited. They've been going just a year but are really getting some attention so a brand to watch out for. I love their mix of high and low, streetwear with couture-inspired attitude. BTW, they also showed in a crappy shopping mall in Les Halles, kudos! Check out their instagram for more.
Kiroko Made's custom projects
So we all love Kiriko, thats nothing new! But I'm loving their instagram right now, its full of all their new FW16 product as well as some new kick-ass home-wears and great Japanese vintage pieces too. But I loved this custom Vietham war jacket they recently made for a special customer and feel it sums up everything I'm really drawn to at the moment: Vietnam war pieces, patches, re-made product and faded panelled patchwork. I love the look of Americana through an eastern lens.
Aalto International grab attention with THIS killer jean
The fit! The shade of indigo! The styling! I love everything about this look. This Finnish designer has not really been on my radar until I saw this collection and particularly this image on instagram. They put this same trouser shape out for pre-fall this year but in a clean, chino look. Still nice but of course, this denim appeals to me more. The label's look is pure retro weirdness and I love it. I officially have a new favourite.
Tumused introduces me to @mintvaramol
I'm looking forward to meeting Tumused in person some time in 2016 when I finally make it back to Thailand! He owns the Blue Dye Cafe in Bangkok and I've had to witness many mates visit him through my instagram feed and get more and more jealous! The other day though, he got a visit from the beautiful @mintvaramol and I fell in love: indigo hair, insane kimono, great style and owner of Cone no. 9, a fantastic ceramics company out of Thailand. What a denim Dudette!
Wind and sea tokyo
As you know I was recently in San Francisco, visiting many people, including Evan Kinori at his studio. As he told me about growing his business and finding retailers, he mentioned Wind & Sea, a store I haven't visited before in Tokyo. Cue a bit of googling around and now I'm really looking forward to my next trip out there when I can go visit. It looks like a beautiful store as their instagram feed shows.
Miss Lady Bug's Style
The lovely Ayuma from Clutch put me onto Miss Lady Bug, aka Nana. She lives in LA but is Japanese and into vintage in a big way. Namely 20's to 60's vintage. These jeans pictured above are a collaboration with @showpigeon, a tattoo artist friend of Miss Lady's and I am totally in love with them! I am not really a 40's/ 50's rockabilly gal but these jeans are so nicely done I've put Nana on my Denim Dudettes list :-)
Ashley Rowe's Destroyed Denim
So I've been kinda aware of Ashley Rowe's stuff for a little while but came across her instagram through a mate the other day and its looking very indigo! Splitting her time between Marfa, Toronto and New York, Ashley has recently become inspired by the cloth of the Texan Tuxedo: Denim. Playing with raw hems a la Marques Almeida, Rowe gives silhouettes and styling a distinctive Mid-American spin which makes this a fresh contemporary womens brand to watch!
